AF0500 detects arc flash!

The AF0500 is a microprocessor-based arc-flash protection relay that limits arc-fault damage by detecting the light from an arc flash and rapidly tripping the feeder breaker. The unit is well suited for switchgear, transformer, motor controls center and power converter applications.

Sensors, inputs, and connections are health monitored to ensure fail-safe operation. A secondary solid-state trip circuit provides a redundant trip path. A USB port is used for configuration and access to event logs. The AF0500 arc-flash protection relay includes an Ethernet interface and supports Modbus TCP communication. Zone tripping, upstream breaker tripping and tie breaker tripping applications can be easily configured. A number of control inputs allows interconnection of multiple AF0500 units to form a system.

Relay AF0500 co-operates with PGA-LS10 point sensors and PGA-LS20/PGA-LS30 fiber optical sensor. Between 1 and 4 sensors in any combination can be connected and managed.

Navy Shore to Ship Connectors

Standards applicable to Navy differ from the requirements for commercial vessels. Also with regard to shore-to-ship power supply connection during the stay in port. NATO uses the MIL-C-24368 standard that originated in the US fleet . Both plugs and receptacles, single and three phase are standardized to ensure efficient and reliable power for ships of allied forces in each country belonging to the pact.

COMEL has knowledge and experience in the field of supplying shore to vessels, both commercial and military. We proposed the Navycompliant connection as a part of our 50/60Hz converter system, which is designed to supply ships from shore during their repairs in the shipyards. Parallel operation of multiple connectors can cover the power demand of a larger warship. Plugs and receptacles are characterized by high durability and resistance to evennot the most delicate handling.

Our Participation in Baltexpo 2017 Fair

From 11 to 13 September 2017, in the framework of marine fair BALTEXPO 2017, Comel together with Electrical Department of Marine Academy in Gdynia was exhibiting a solution of Serial Active Power Filter (SAPF) operating in a system with 18-pulse rectifier. The booth was launched under common sector named The Center of Innovation and Advanced Technology.

SELCO M2500 - Engine controller

  • Graphical display with gauges and dials
  • Automatic and Manual operation
  • Supports magnetic and inductive pick-ups
  • Discrete sensors and SAE CAN J1939
  • On-board Alarm Panel with texable label
  • PC configuration by browser and USB
  • Alarm and event log with data and time
  • Data storage on built-in SD-card
  • RS485 MODBUS RTU for SCADA or HMI
  • Complies with Marine class requirements
  • Flush mount IP54 design

The SELCO M2500 Engine Controller has been designed for control, monitoring and protection of engines in marine applications e.g. auxiliary generators, emergency generators, harbour generators or engines for propulsion. Despite having been designed to meet the strictest requirements for marine, the M2500 is also the premiere choice for engines in land applications. Few engine controllers provides as intuitive a user interface as the M2500. The M2500 provides all necessary inputs and outputs on-board, which means that no auxillary I/O modules are required. Given the fact the the M2500 supports both discrete sensors (potential free contacts or 4-20 mA sensors) and SAE CAN J1939, the M2500 works just as well with new as well as older engines. RS485 MODBUS RTU is provided for communication with SCADA or HMI systems. The unit allows manual (local) and remote (automatic) start of the engine and will monitor all relevant engine parameters ? either through discrete sensors or thorugh SAE CAN J1939. 9 digital and 8 analogue inputs (with cable monitoring) are provided on-board for detection of alarms and/or shut down conditions. A total of 90 alarms can be configured. Each alarm can be configured for either monitoring or engine shut down. 12 programmable output relays are available. The relay outputs can be configured for common warning, alarm or shut down. Additionally there are pre-defined outputs for common alarms, shut downs and status indication. Everything is provided on-board in a single flush mounted panel. There is no need for auxillary I/O boards etc.

M2500 controller complies with Marine class requirements for installation on board ships. For more information please visit manufacturer's site  oraz download catalogue (pdf). More pictures at COMEL shop (text in Polish).

ZML Motor Starters

COMEL manufactures a ZML line of robust and reliable direct on line (DOL) motor starters for electric motors up to 25 Amps nominal current and up to 400V AC (max 690V AC) nominal voltage. These solid products have been designed with demanding installation and work environment in mind - for industrial applications. In particular they are suitable for harsh conditions met in shipyards and on board vessels. COMEL motor starters ensure DOL motor start and overload protection.
