R&D - co-operation with scientific organizations
Since the beginning of the COMEL company there was a need to introduce a number of innovative technical and organizational solutions. The process of implementation of new concepts, original for the firm or for Poland, proved to be indispensable in the design of its own products. Specific customer requirements, as well as the natural need to improve the construction of inverters in a competitive market, gave the necessary impetus for development activities in the company. A perfect example of its own original solution is the system for synchronization of rotary converters COMEL 300 and 301, driven by synchronous motors.
A special character took on R&D co-operation with the Maritime Academy in Gdynia. Earlier irregular contacts were formalized in 2011 through the creation of a joint scientific consortium, whose main objective was to establish cooperation in the field of innovative power electronic converter systems and the promotion of innovation and technical and scientific developments in the area of power electronics and drives. Consortium named "Gdynia Group of Innovative Power Electronics" (GGIPE) provides a platform for conducting joint research and development projects and managing funding for them.
As a result of GGIPE activities, the Consortium won a tender and obtained funding for a research project entitled "Serial Active Power Filter for Integration with Diode Rectifier" (under the Program for Applied Research Path A - Agreement No. PBS1 / A4 / 5/2012 NCBiR). The subject of the research is related to the growing issue of deterioration in the quality of electricity in systems with nonlinear loads. During the project realization possible solutions to the serial active power filter (SAPF) concept were analyzed, and the obtained results were experimentally tested using laboratory low power models. Ultimately, the results of the laboratory tests led to construction of a prototype high power converter (150 kW), whose behavior was thoroughly verified.
